Pears

There are a couple of ornamental pear trees too.  Planted in such odd locations I wonder if they were put there by birds.

  1. They are pretty, too. You say they are ornamental. Does that mean they do not 'fruit' or is the fruit they bear simply not attractive enough for humans to bother with?

  2. We have one like this in the garden at Burnbrae and I have never seen anything remotely like fruit and there was no fruit on this one in Autumn either. I am fairly sure it is called a Manchurian Pear and just looked it up. If it is they apparently do have fruit "Inedible, greenish-yellow, globose pomes up to 3 cm in diameter."
